The Monroe County School Board approved the construction of an elementary school on Big Pine Key.
Mayor Tony Tarracino proposed instituting an additional 3-cent bed tax to raise city revenues without taxing the locals.
50 YEARS AGO
Key West's Marianne Lopez won the state of Florida's high school girls golfing championship, with a round of 82, to win by two strokes.
The Church of Christ took out a $25,000 building permit for a new church at 1700 Von Phister St.
Mrs. Paul Vecker and Roselind Garfunkel celebrated the 50th anniversary of their graduation from the Convent of Mary Immaculate.

@ Fenway Park - Boston !!

At right is Richie Bancells (class of '73) taking time to chat with Lynn Borges Roberts (class of '76) just before a game between the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park - Boston on a chilly September 2006 evening. Richie has been the Head athletic trainer of the Baltimore Orioles since 1989. It was so nice of Richie to take a few minutes out of his busy schedule to say hi!
